Workshop: How to Approach Agencies and Win Work
Friday 7th July 15:30 - 17:30pm

In this workshop, led by senior editorial consultant, Elle Bradley-Cox, you will learn what agencies are looking for in a freelancer, how to reach out and present yourself, and what freelancers may get wrong about the freelancer - agency relationship.
Presented by NODE, the workshop is funded by Screen Industries Growth Network and is open to all creative practitioners in York and the surrounding areas. Admission is free but spaces are limited so be sure to book in advance.
The workshop will last approximately one hour with an additional 30 minutes for questions, and is followed by York Creatives’ monthly social.
Symposium: The Republic of Parenthood

This one day symposium will explore a range of themes surrounding parenthood and its relationship with creativity.
The line-up includes talks, workshops, and exhibitions led by speakers, creatives, and facilitators from a diverse range of creative backgrounds including animation, fine art, creative writing, film and psychology.

Fortnightly Arts Social: Drink and Draw

Come along to York Creatives’ new fortnightly social to stretch your drawing abilities, meet fellow creatives, and enjoy carbon neutral refreshments in York's net zero coffee shop and wine bar.
With limited capacity, these will be intimate events, perfect for challenging yourself in a friendly, low pressure environment. Alice and/or Vanshika from York Creatives will be on hand to help facilitate the evening, simply arrive with any drawing materials you would like to work with.

Funding Opportunity: Developing Your Creative Practice

Round 18 of Arts Council England’s Developing Your Creative Practice opens this month. The fund is designed to support individual creative and cultural practitioners to reshape and redefine their practice in an ever changing climate. Through DYCP, Arts Council offers grants of between £2,000 and £10,000, with a view to providing grantees with the time and resources needed to develop their creative practice.
Women in Enterprise - Creative Sector

Produced by University of York, Women in Enterprise brings together stories of women from various sectors to share their enterprise journeys and the barriers they have overcome to succeed in their field.
July’s event will focus on women in the creative industries, with talks from Emma Brown, Programme Manager, XR Stories & SIGN Projects, and Cherie Federico, Director of Aesthetica Magazine. Both women have extensive experience and their work has had significant impacts on the current landscape of the creative and cultural industries in the UK.
Everyone is welcome to attend this event, regardless of gender, to build greater understanding of diverse perspectives and share new ideas around best practice and how best to support one another.

Career Development Opportunity: Opening Doors

In partnership with York Theatre Royal, Next Door But One is offering a series of free career development sessions to performing arts professionals in York.
For successful candidates, the sessions will take place between November 2023 and March 2024, with a series of virtual and in-person workshops to be delivered. The sessions will provide skills development opportunities covering multiple areas, including arts fundraising, script-writing, programming, auditioning, directing, and more.

This anonymous, short survey will ask a few questions about your attitude toward the role of AI and digital creativity in music making and gig-going.
Workshop: Art for Wellbeing

Develop your practice and creativity in this two hour workshop led by local artist Griselda Goldsbrough. Taking place in the beautiful studio space at York Art Gallery, the workshop will give artists the opportunity to discover and explore a variety of art materials and inspiring themes designed to promote wellbeing.
These monthly workshops are open to anyone aged 16+ regardless of ability or experience and booking is not required.
Funding Opportunity: Music For All

Round two of Music For All’s Funding for Individuals is currently open for applications. This round of funding is targeted at individuals with physical mobility, coordination and/or accessibility needs.
Applicants can apply for up to £750 and grants must be used to remove barriers and support the grantee’s ability to make music.
To apply, you will need to submit an application form along with a witness statement. Full eligibility criteria and details on how to apply can be found on the Music For All website.

Southbank Studios free Saturday morning art group is open to all and offers great opportunities to meet with like minded artists in a relaxed, social setting while refining your practise.
The sessions are facilitated by Southbank Studios artists but are not taught. Artists of all abilities are welcome to come along. Simply drop in with your sketchbook and drawing materials.
